About Us

Prior to opening Banbury Cross in 1996, Peggy Roth, owner, had 15 years of experience sewing and designing children's clothing. Not only did Peggy sew for other people, she also made clothing for her seven children. While working for herself as well as other companies, she had various positions in the development and production of children's clothing. With the skills she attained through her work, she decided to put her talent and energy toward opening a retail store. Through the years, Peggy has had store locations in: Natchez, MS; Hattiesburg, MS; New Orleans, LA; Metairie, LA; and Baton Rouge, LA. Presently the Metairie and Baton Rouge locations are operating.

When Banbury Cross first began, Peggy carried only clothing she designed, with the Banbury Cross label. These styles were classic, which included float dresses, shortalls, knickers, heirloom clothing and items with monogramable collars. As the years went on, other classic clothing lines were picked up to fulfill customers' needs. This included items such as smocked bishop dresses and shortalls, heirloom dresses, infant knits, special occasion clothing, casual outfits, sleepwear and swimwear. Peggy still designs and manufactures her line of clothing for the Banbury Cross label which is offered exclusively at the store locations and online. At this time, the website only represents a portion of what is offered at the two store locations.

This is implemented through special occasion orders, personal shopping, adequate knowledge of the inventory, and free gift wrapping.
